The nursery. More like, the sanctuary. The place where over months we’ve endlessly entered in and out of. Sometimes together, sometimes on our own. An evolution of a guest room/office, to boxes to chaos to new furniture and packages filling the room, to the slow and steady parade of it’s completion. We’ve watched this vision trickle together piece by piece, as we find ourselves wandering about it’s interiors daily while creating new visions. Imaging life with this little creature, her place fulfilled in this spot we’ve created just for her, yet knowing the place she will encompass in our hearts will be far greater than any daydream can paint in all it’s glory.
It all began with the moose, Buckley…
I knew he needed to be a part of this place and after we decided to do my bump progress pics with him delightfully set in the background (with ever-changing props), it was set. The flower is from one of my best friend, Shannon’s, wedding, who happened to house and take my bump shots. It makes it all the more special. Especially because she was my brainstorming rock throughout this entire process! No idea, no matter how untraditional or unusual it was, went unexplored. And for that, I’ll love her forever (not that I wouldn’t have already)! Oh, and she also made me the fabulous “Arrived” sign – with the help of Uncle Tito, of course.
And then there is the sensory daybed. The bed I have been playfully harassed about since first daydreaming it up – incorporating the early childhood learning concept of the sense of touch! It’s been called the touchy feely bed, the petting bed – whatever inappropriate name you can think of, it’s been hailed! (On Christmas Eve as I was opening beau coups of pillows, perched between my dad and Scott, this girl had to leave to go to the bathroom twice so I didn’t pee my pants from laughing so hard.) Regardless, I wanted a cozy bed that we could read on, spend family-of-three time together, a place to cuddle up and nuzzle up. All of the pillows are blank canvases of different textures, encouraging touch and exploration and hopefully leading to inspiration and endless wonder. And of course, the crazy cuddly wolf from Kacey (that houses little red riding hood and her cell phone in his belly) had to be a part of this twisted little palette.
There are many items tucked away in this room that are nostalgic, such as the mother and daughter porcelain plaque that hangs over the light switch. It hung over my light switch growing up and somehow it’s manage to follow me off to college, to a home of our own and now, in the room of our little girl to be.
The dot garland strung across the mirrors and lampshades were taken from the shower that was thrown for me by Shannon and Beth. It truly tied the colors of the nursery together, adding that extra punch I didn’t even realize it needed.
The “Isn’t she lovely…” large clipboard was actually found when we were cleaning out closets to make room for our new addition. It was my drafting board that I used throughout college, and finding it’s place here to house future artwork made of crayons and water paints seemed fittingly perfect. The white and silver silk floral pods were used at our wedding, and seemed to add just the right amount of magical charm.

Her first piggy bank, a sheep, that was given to us with a starter college fund left by Scott’s grandparents.
And the mobile, which was a collaboration on all parts. From Scott tirelessly dampening and forming the branches to a perfect sprawl, to sewing brightly colored birdies together with my mom (as well as her patiently enduring my anal retentiveness while she hung the branch for me), to Shannon stopping by for the final touch of hanging the Wee Cards. Oh, and we can’t forget the burning of fingers and blankets with the hot glue gun. All phases carried their own shenanigans.
It’s a big feeling, knowing our lives are about to change forever. That just the mere thought of holding this little girl, feeling her warmth, smelling her sweet baby smell, can jolt me into tears. And this is a special place, the sanctuary, her sanctuary. I never thought I’d find myself saying this, but we’re officially ready for her to arrive. And now, well, now is right on time.

Below you can find an extensive list of products and where they may be available for purchase. We were actually very lucky to find almost all of these items on sale for the holidays, some were stumbled upon damage/clearance finds and others, such as the daybed and crib were very generous gifts from our parents – which we are very, very grateful for!

Your mobile is Amazing!
I've been looking at a ton of nurseries and this one is unique & gorgeous. Thanks for the inspiration! That mobile is amazing. Can you also tell where you found the "First stop eat, scrub a dub, jammies, etc." sign? Thanks!
Hi Kari! Thanks so much for the sweet compliments and congrats on your baby-to-be! What an amazing time for you. I actually made the "First stop, Scrub-a-dub, Jammies" sign. If you want to shoot me an email, I can send you a pdf file of the artwork and then you can print it off yourself. I think I did it in three colors – seafoam, a peach and then the gray color (that I ultimately
I love ALL of it. The birds are a great touch & I am really loving the paper garland from your shower. It is sweet & inspiring to hear about all the different, sentimental touches. Thanks for taking so much time to make this so special and touching. And I want to get that little ducky mirror. Too cute!
I should have made my name "shannon bailey" so you know which shannon it is 🙂
