the story of you | 2019

A little ditty, about Jack and Diane…

Every time I hear it I’m taken back.  Memories flash like tiny clips of film: sitting on the bumpy pavers, the kind that leaves the bum of your swimsuit frayed by the end of summer, toes in the pool tapping to the beat while a popsicle melts down my arm.  John Cougar Mellencamp serenading us through speakers and my dad, often shirtless, pausing from the Sunday morning paper for an air-guitar jam. We watched on, bobbing our heads with giant grins between licks. My mom, suit on but always in perpetual motion around the house. The smell of bacon lingering through the french doors.

Eagles, John Cougar Mellencamp, Casey Kasem… they all take me back to this place.  These effortless post-church summer day rituals.  A single thread among thousands woven into my story of life.

Like me, you have threads, too.  Ones you consciously create for yourself, your children, an idea of how you want them to remember their life and how they were loved.  And mundane moments of nothing that seem to stick, flooding your emotions, triggered by something as simple as a song, or perhaps, something else. What are some tiny moments from your past year that will rise to your mind in the future? What will trigger them? The scent of the shampoo used on your newborn in the hospital, or perhaps a tune from a show will make you remember tiny giggles and gummy smiles.

No matter how you’ve struggled or thrived in 2019, a common thread remains: we’ve all created moments of significance.

Each of you are creating threads. A story among stories that will be shared with family and friends and me, helping to create another story in life.

The very beautiful Story of You.

So here’s a little ditty about Jack and Diane… a video including four precious seconds from every family I’ve had the honor of creating threads with in 2019, starting with my own. Do they remind you of your own?

Maybe like me, you look back and see a year of struggle, and also a year of abundance. For all of us, these gifts of family are the greatest love story there is. It has been an honor and a blessing from above to know each of you, and be included in your story of life.

If you’d like me to help you capture some of these timeless moments for you to hold and relive, please reach out to me to here and we can plan a beautiful session together.
